Babs bloper remixed

From Daily Jews:

She is best known for her love ballads such as Woman In Love and themes from movies such as Hello Dolly, but now Barbra Streisand is set to conquer the dance charts with a song that samples an x-rated expletive outburst she made.

A few weeks ago at her concert in New York, Jewish songstress extraordinaire Barbra Streisand got into a bit of a ruckus with a member of the audience who disagreed with the way she portrayed George Bush during a comedic moment during her gig.

When the heckler expressed his displeasure, Babs retorted with the words "Shut the f**k up" and now those words have been sampled as part of a new dance track by a New York-based musician.

According to showbiz blog TMZ.com, Lucian Piane aka RevoLucian is still waiting to hear from Barbra as to what she thinks of his tune. "It portrays her in a positive light, making her into a champion," he said. But what if he doesn’t get her approval? "Shut up if you can't take a joke!" he says.

Not so "Jewish" Chronicle

Is the Jewish Chronicle aiming to tempt its readers to sway towards messianic Judaism?

Messianic Jews, for those who don't know, are those who believe that Jesus is the messiah, which of course is a million miles away from being Jewish.

Twice in the last few months, features have appeared in the Jewish Chronicle in which readers are invited to visit websites that promote messianic Judaism.

The first time it was to visit a podcast aimed at converting Jews to Christianity and this week, it's saying that Messianic "Jewish" rapper 50 Shekel is a top 10 Jewish interest on You Tube.

Maybe, the JC could have first visited the home page of 50 Shekel who these days uses his name Aviad Cohen and discovered that for the last couple of years he has become a messianic Jew keen to spread the word that Jesus is the messiah.

Next time the Jewish Chronicle decides to write something about the internet, it should really do some proper research on subjects it is writing about.

As the so-called "organ" of anglo-Jewry, one would have thought the Jewish Chronicle would make sure that any external links it provides whether in paper or indeed online are checked before being published.

Today it's messianic, what could it be tomorrow?

Israel says no to thin models...

According to China Daily:

Reuters reported that "Top Israeli retail companies have agreed not to employ overly thin models for their advertisements, joining a growing global campaign to fight anorexia within the fashion industry."

The fallout continues around the world following Spain's "skinny model ban" hub-bub at Madrid's Fashion Week this season.

Peace through business

A Jewish American businessman is hoping that his ethical clothing company will play its part in making inroads to peace in the Middle East.

TotallyJewish reports:

Adam Neiman, founder of the sweatshop-free apparel manufacturer, Bienestar International, which produces clothing and footwear under the label No Sweat, has recently partnered up with a unionised Bethlehem factory to create a new line of yoga wear.

Neiman believes that by offering up decent jobs he can help steer more Palestinian men away from joining terrorist organisations in the West Bank and Gaza.

He expects to roll out his organic or fair-trade cotton yoga line from the Bethlehem factory, Arja Textile and Co., on the second day of Chanukah in Israel, with clothing set to hit London stores in 2007.

Sexy Jewish social networking...

How do you get a bunch of Jews to sign up to your web service?  Well, in the case of social network Koolanoo.com, you make a promotional video and stick it up on You Tube and see what happens.

And you also make sure that the video is of a sexy women in a swimming pool with a bunch of guys sitting around the pool.

And you know what... she manages to lose her top when diving into the pool.

Anyway...see for yourself...

UK Jew makes top 30 best blogs...

My good friend MC Rebbe officially operates one of the best blogs in the UK according to MSN.

Musican, entertainer, writer and professional Jew, MC Rebbe has been around for yonks and its great to see his blog being recognised as a source of good writing.

Go on and make his day by visiting the blog and post a comment or two.

Points of Jew helps the Jewish Chronicle to enable comments on its fledgling blog

Following our posting a few days ago in which we mentioned that the Jewish Chronicle had a blog, but had not yet enabled comments, it's good to see that the "organ of British Jewry" as it also likes to be known is now allowing comments to its postings.

We did offer to post on Points of Jew any comments to any of the Jewish Chronicle blog postings, but alas, we didn't get anyone who wanted to post anything about what they read on the JC blog.

Actually, looking at the JC blog itself, it doesn't look like anyone other than its own staff are posting anything.

New Jewish character on Eastenders

It seems like years since the BBC's Eastenders has featured a Jewish character. Well, the reason for that is because, it is at least six years since Felix The Barber left. You could of course include Dr Legg returning for a couple of episodes about three years ago, but he wasn't back as a regular.

Anyway... Eastenders had a new Jewish character on Tuesday night, albeit a very supporting role.

While Billy Mitchell was having a bit of a fracas on a tube train, one of the passengers happened to be sporting a yarmulke. No name was given for this person, nor did he have any speaking part.

He just played a backing image role. And what a wonderful protrayal this actor played of a Jew on a tube. Probably the best I have ever seen.

Well done BBC for realising Jews use the tube.

Melanie Phillips in conversation

Daily Mail and Jewish Chronicle columnist Melanie Phillips was in conversation last night at the London Jewish Cultural Centre promoting herself and her book Londonistan. Cara Wides was there for SomethingJewish.

Wides reports:

"She talked in length about how she clashed with colleagues at The Guardian over what she described as their anti-Israel attitude - she was unhappy that they gave so few column inches to problems inflicted on Israel."

Phillips believes not enough is being done to tackle extremists:

"However she believes the problem of ignoring extremists in the UK goes back further, to the time of the Salman Rushdie"s Satanic Verses: "The British didn"t understand how serious it was when extremists in London openly called for the murder of a British citizen in the name of religion. "No one said “what is going on here?” – why wasn"t anyone locked up for this threat of murder?"

After taking some questions from the audience, Phillips ended the evening. Wides added:

"However her conclusion to the talk was more chilling that comforting. "This is a fight. This attack from what President Bush calls "Islamic fascism" is on a whole lot of people, including moderate British Muslims. If we don"t win this war we will be dead."
